👩‍🍳 Instructions:

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and sugar, then add the yeast.

  2. Stir and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy (this means the yeast is active).

Step 2: Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

  2. Add the softened butter, egg, and the yeast mixture.

  3. Mix together until a soft dough forms. Knead by hand or with a mixer for 7–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

  1. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap.

  2. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Donuts

  1. Punch down the risen dough to release air.

  2. Divide it into equal pieces (about 12).

  3. Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist it gently and pinch the ends to hold the shape.

Step 5: Second Rise

  1. Place the twisted donuts on a tray lined with parchment paper.

  2. Cover loosely and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.

Step 6: Fry the Donuts

  1. Heat oil in a deep pot to 170–180°C (340–355°F).

  2. Fry 2–3 donuts at a time until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side.

  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Step 7: Coat in Sugar

  1. While still warm, roll the donuts in plain sugar or a cinnamon-sugar mix.

  2. Serve warm and enjoy!

💡 Tips:

  • Make sure the oil isn’t too hot — too high and the outside will brown before the inside is cooked.

  • These are best eaten fresh, but you can reheat them in the microwave for 10–15 seconds the next day.

  • Want to fill them? Let them cool and inject some custard or jam inside with a piping bag!
