Pan-Fried Tofu with Soy Sauce Glaze

Pan-Fried Tofu with Soy Sauce Glaze
Ingredients:
1 block of firm or extra-firm tofu
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon corn syrup
1 clove minced garlic
Roasted sesame seeds (optional)
Chopped green onions (optional)
Instructions:
1. Press the tofu:
Wrap the tofu in paper towels and place a heavy object on top for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
2. Cut the tofu:
Slice the pressed tofu into 1/4-inch thick slabs or 1-inch cubes.
3. Coat the tofu:
In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Gently toss the tofu in the mixture until evenly coated.
4. Pan-fry the tofu:
Heat the vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu slices and cook until golden brown and crispy, 3 to 5 minutes per side.
5. Make the glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tablespoon corn syrup, and 1 minced garlic clove.
6. Glaze the tofu:
Pour the glaze over the tofu in the skillet and cook for another 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu.
7. Serve:
Transfer the tofu to a serving plate and sprinkle with roasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
