Malteser Poodle Dog Cake

Malteser Poodle Dog Cake

This adorable and fun cake design uses Maltesers and other candies to create a poodle-shaped cake. Perfect for parties or celebrations!

Ingredients:

For the Cake Base:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
For the Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
2-3 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
A few drops of brown or beige food coloring (optional, for a “poodle” look)

Decorations:
Maltesers (several packs, for fur)
Candy eyes or edible sugar pearls
Pink fondant or candy (for the tongue and ears)
Chocolate sticks (for whiskers)
Piping bag with a small round tip

Instructions:

Bake the Cake:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry mixture.
Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.

Prepare the Frosting:
Beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with milk, until smooth and fluffy. Mix in vanilla and optional food coloring.

Assemble the Cake:
Layer the cakes with a thin layer of frosting between them. Use the remaining frosting to cover the entire cake. Chill for 15 minutes to set.

Decorate the Poodle:
Stick Maltesers all over the cake to create the poodle’s “fur,” leaving space for the face.
Use candy eyes or sugar pearls for the eyes. Attach them with a dab of frosting.
Shape the tongue and ears using pink fondant or candy, and place them on the cake.
Insert chocolate sticks as whiskers.
Pipe additional frosting for finer details like the nose or mouth.

Final Touches:
Add extra Maltesers or candies around the base for decoration.
Chill the cake until ready to serve.

Tips:
Shaping the Cake: If you want a more realistic poodle shape, trim one layer of the cake into an oval for the face and use the scraps to form ears or other features.
Alternative Fur: Mini marshmallows can also be used for the “fur” if you don’t have enough Maltesers.
Color Variation: Use white chocolate Maltesers or mix them in for a lighter fur look.
Enjoy this cute and tasty centerpiece that’s as fun to look at as it is to eat! 🐩🎂
