✨ Ingredients:
-
3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
-
2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter (softened)
-
1 packet (7g) instant dry yeast
-
2 tablespoons sugar
-
1 cup (240ml) warm milk
-
1 large egg
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
Vegetable oil (for frying)
For coating:
-
½ cup sugar
-
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions:
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
-
In a small bowl, mix the warm milk and sugar, then add the yeast.
-
Stir and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy (this means the yeast is active).
Step 2: Make the Dough
-
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
-
Add the softened butter, egg, and the yeast mixture.
-
Mix together until a soft dough forms. Knead by hand or with a mixer for 7–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Step 3: First Rise
-
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
-
Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 4: Shape the Donuts
-
Punch down the risen dough to release air.
-
Divide it into equal pieces (about 12).
-
Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist it gently and pinch the ends to hold the shape.
Step 5: Second Rise
-
Place the twisted donuts on a tray lined with parchment paper.
-
Cover loosely and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
Step 6: Fry the Donuts
-
Heat oil in a deep pot to 170–180°C (340–355°F).
-
Fry 2–3 donuts at a time until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side.
-
Remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 7: Coat in Sugar
-
While still warm, roll the donuts in plain sugar or a cinnamon-sugar mix.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
💡 Tips:
-
Make sure the oil isn’t too hot — too high and the outside will brown before the inside is cooked.
-
These are best eaten fresh, but you can reheat them in the microwave for 10–15 seconds the next day.
-
Want to fill them? Let them cool and inject some custard or jam inside with a piping bag!
